Tips and Tricks: Red Eye

Red Eye

What is Red eye? If you don't know, I'm sure you have all seen it. You have a great photo except for one aspect, the subject looks possessed due to a red glow from the eyes!

It happens to everyone. Some are more prone to it than others it seems, but what is the cause? For the most part, Red Eye is due to light reflecting off the red blood vessels that are located behind the pupil. The darker the room, the more the pupil will open, thus you can have a greater reflection.

Some digital cameras offer a Red Eye reduction setting that can be utilized to help avoid this problem. Alternately, you may increase lighting in the room which will help contract the pupil and you may also ask the subject to avoid looking directly at the camera. Of course, none of these may be an absolute resolution.
